Unseen World and Imams' Issues 16item Does the Shia believe that Imams take their knowledge from the Holy Prophet? One of my friend, I should say class fellow one of the bitterest Wahhabi...told, you believe that your imams knew the time of their death...if yes then they must b knowing how they would be killed martyred...then it’s a suicide naudobillah to eat the food having poison...I have been answered quite efficiently by other Ulemas but I want u to answer me, that could help Wahhabis understand too...on the other side I have stopped meeting him even stopped attending friends gathering...what is the ruling regarding that. Should I continue these things or not? Why is necessary for Imam to have an overflowing knowledge? Shed some light on the knowledge of the unseen of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) and the pure Imams (peace be upon them). And in this regard, considering the principle that Allah has no partner in His knowledge and other attributes of perfection and beauty, explain the difference between Allah’s and the Imam’s knowledge and between the Imam’s and the Prophet’s knowledge. Did Rasool Allah Mohammed Salallahu alayhi wa sallam have Ilme Ghayb (Unseen world)? Knowing of the unknown Future? I have a friend who throws a lot of question at me to see what we follow and understand. Since I have asked that let me know also if any of our Imams especially Harzat Ali had it? Providing references from Quran will help me the most. What is the extent of the knowledge of the Imam (a.s)? Did the Imams (the Ahlul-Bayt) have knowledge of the unseen? Do the infallible Imams enjoy the Wilayat Takwiniya (universal or absolute authority)? Do they have the knowledge of the unseen, if God, the Most Exalted wills so? Where did the Masoomeen - The Infallibles- get their knowledge from? Was it taught to them by their parents and the Prophet or was it all given to them directly from God? Does Imam Mahdi, the Imam of Time (a.s.), know when he is going to reappear? What is meant when it is said that Awliya’ullah have the knowledge of the past, present and the future? If the imams are capable of doing anything, then why aren’t they even able to protect their own shrines from terrorist attacks and shootings? In Sura Yaseen, verse number 12, Allah, the Exalted, says, "And we have vested everything in a manifest Imam". It is also stated in Sura 9, I believe, that the "Believers are witnesses over the people". We then have traditions from the Ahlulbayt stating our deeds are presented to the Prophet (pbuh) on Thursday nights. It is also stated that Imam Zaman (atf) inspects our deeds on a Monday and Thursday. I have also read a tradition where Imam Reza (a.s) stated to his companion that his deeds are presented to him every morning and evening. How do we reconcile these different traditions and the verses of the Quran? Are the Imams witnessing our actions, or are they being made aware on specific nights? If everything is contained within the Imam, then why do we have traditions where one Imam is giving advice to another Imam, for example Imam Reza (a.s) wrote a letter to Imam Muhammad Taqi (as) advising him to leave the house from the front so as to be of benefit to the beggars. Wouldn't Imam Taqi (a.s) already know this and be acting in this way? Jazakallah Certain questions regarding the sealing of prophethood that stem from a whole new approach to the issue can be seen that revolve around the common theme of ‘the contradiction between Imamate and the sealing of prophethood’ all of which break down into further questions. The Shia belief that the Imams’ knowledge is not accumulated but rather granted to them and that their knowledge is considered a Hujjah for others contradicts Khatamiyyah (i.e., the sealing of prophethood). In any case, people either gain their knowledge without the mediation of anything, or through a means and mediation of their efforts; the prophets being of the first group who gain their knowledge straight from the source without any mediation rather through their own effort. This knowledge is either granted along with infallibility or not, and the prophet’s knowledge is from the first category. Finally, this granted knowledge that is accompanied by infallibility is either considered a Hujjah for others and must be followed by them or not, and once again, the prophets’ knowledge is of the first category. The exaggerating Shias believe that the Imams’ knowledge has all of these three features not knowing that this belief contradicts Khatamiyyah. In other words, they believe that 1- the Imams’ knowledge is not accumulated 2- the Imams’ knowledge is accompanied by infallibility 3- the Imams’ knowledge is Hujjah for others. If the Imams know everything, why did each father teach his son when his son knew the secrets of the world? 12
