Donating blood on the day of Ashura has become quite common and many believers have said that it is regarded as one of the ceremonies of mourning for Imam Hussain (a.s). Is this true? Is donating blood considered to be one of the rituals or is simply a humanitarian act?

In the name of Allah: it is considered to be a humanitarian act, provided that the one who is donating blood (or the one who is encouraging him to do so) does not mean [by donating] to prevent other rituals such as Tatbeer, which is a permissible act. Allah knows best.
