Salaamun Alaikum, 1) Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) had given a khutba from the roof top of Kaaba in Makkah. It is said that this khutba was preserved in books by momineen who migrated to the Indian sub continent and then the khutbah was recorded by ulema / scholars in the Indian sub continent. Subsequently, the khutba of Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) was recorded vide reference of the sources / books in the Indian sub continent. The book is probably in Nasirya Library, India. We wish to know the source of the Khutba of Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) on the roof top of Kaaba and also the name of the Indian scholar / aalim and his book which recorded the Khutba which was subsequently referred in the rest of the world. 2) We also wish to know such names of such important books in Spain, Berlin and other places outside Iran & Iraq. Thanks. Jazakallah. Was-salaam.

Dear Brother Salam alaikum This sermon has not been cited in any original and old sources; but it has been published in recent years in a book entitled ‘Khatib Kaaba’, which was criticized and analyzed by some people. Response of to a similar question is as follows: Question It is said that Hazrat Abbas Ibn Ali (a.s.) has delivered a sermon on the roof of Holy Kaaba in defense of Imam Hussein (a.s.) before moving to Karbala. Is this valid? Which books such a report comes from? Answer In the cyberspace, there is a sermon attributed to Hazrat Abbas (a.s.), claiming that he had delivered it on the roof of Holy Kaaba on Dhul-Hijjah 8th, 60 A.H. in defense of Imam Hussein (a.s.). This sermon has not been cited in any of the ancient and authentic books and sources. Rather, it is only narrated in a contemporary book called ‘Khatib Kaaba’ (a narrative description of Hazrat Abbas’ sermon over Kaaba). The writer of this book claims that he has quoted the story from a book entitled ‘Manaqib Saadat al-Keraam’ (مناقب سادة الکرام) written by Sayyid Ein-ul-Arifin Hindi available in the library of Allameh Mir Hamed Hossein Mousavi Neyshaburi Kashmiri. However, this claimed source book is not available today. Anyway, the text of this sermon is as follows in the cyberspace (quoted from the book Khatib Kaaba): The contents of this sermon is acceptable; however, if someone is familiar with the narrations and the type of Arabic scriptures at that time, he will easily find out that the Arabic text of this sermon if of no eloquence; and even it could not essentially be produced by an Arabic-speaking person, since there are great mistakes in the Arabic text which are traceable by anyone who is familiar with Arabic literature. The Translation of the sermon is as follows: ******** All praise is for Allah who honored Baitullah (the House of Allah) with the birth of Imam Hussein’s father. This house was Allah’s House only; but afterwards, it was turned into Qibla. O’ Wicked infidels! Are you preventing the Imam of the righteous people to enter the Kaaba? This Imam is he who deserves the most to enter the House of Allah. Who is closer to this house than he is? If it was not for the command of Allah and not for the unseen mysteries of Allah and if Allah had not willed that His people would be tested, then this Kaaba would have uprooted itself and flown towards the holy Imam. Verily, people touch the holy Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad); but it is the Black Stone which touches the hands of this holy Imam. Beware! The will of my master (Imam Hussein) is subject to the will of Almighty Allah; if it were not for this, then I would have attacked you like an eagle which attacks the sparrows. Are you trying to intimidate those who did not care for death during their childhood? Imagine! How brave must they be at their adulthood! I am the one who will sacrifice my soul for the sake of my master who is the best of all people on the earth! O’ people! What has happened to your intellect? Do you not recognize what is the difference between the family of the Prophet and the family of Yazid? On one side is the family of Yazid who drinks alcohol; and on the other side is the Master and Owner of the heavenly spring of Kauthar. On one side are people whose house is the incarnation of evil and impurity; and on the other side are those who are the incarnation of purity and the verses of the Holy Quran. You are repeating the same mistakes that the Quraish committed. They planned to kill the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.) and you are planning to kill the son of your prophet’s daughter. The Quraish were not successful in their evil schemes because there was Imam Ali; and you will not succeed to kill Imam Hussein as long as I am here! Come to me so that I inform you of the holy Imam’s path! Come and kill me and cut my head (if you can); then you will be able to fulfill your (evil) desires. I pray that Almighty Allah will not let your plans come true! May Allah shorten your lives and decrease the number of your offspring! May Allah curse you and your forefathers! ******** Among the criticisms on this sermon, we can refer to a detailed commentary in Farsi language in a journal entitled آیینه پژوهش No. 118 dated Sunday, 1 Azar 1388 (Iranian calendar).
